Current and Former Students

Danna Lasher (class of 2008): He worked in measuring the phase transition of confined decane in the summer of 2007 and during the academic year 2007-2008. He wrote his thesis based on this work.  This work was the starting point for our paper “Nonfreezing Interfacial Layers of Cyclohexane in Nanoporous Silica”, Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Vol. 113, pp 18983–18986, 2009. It has been presented at North American Thermal Analysis Society, Lubbock, TX 2010. Danna is now working for schlumberger.

Otto Jakutowicz (class of 2009):  He studied the molecular vibration of Polyvinyl acetate below and above its glass transition.  He worked in the lab during the summer of 2007 and the academic year of 2007-2008. He wrote his thesis based on this work. Otto worked as a test engineer for Britax and now is working for Duke Energy.

Anna Gaudette (class of 2009):  She was actually my first student. She worked on enthalpic relaxation of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl acetate silica nano composites.  She worked in the lab during summer 2007.  She also worked on the project during the academic year of 2006-2007, we used DSC in the department of chemistry. Her worked is presented at the APS march meeting in new Orleans 2008 and 44th Annual Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference, Toronto, October 2008. It is published in the “Enthalpic Relaxation of Silica-Polyvinyl Acetate Nanocomposites”, Journal of Polymer Science: Part B: Polymer Physics, Vol. 46, pp 2733-2740, 2008. Anna is working now for a consulting firm in Huston, Texas.

Peter Bonventre (class of 2010): He worked on fabrication of porous silica via Sol-Gel technique.  He worked in the lab during the summer of 2009. He went to pursue PhD in Mathematics after Union.

Hillary Bauer (class of 2011): She worked on the phase transition of physically restricted cyclohexane.  She worked in the lab during summer 2008 and summer 2009.  Her worked is presented at the 44th Annual Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference, Toronto, October 2008 and North American Thermal Analysis Society, Lubbock, TX 2010.

Amer Khraisat (class of 2013) worked in the lab during the winter and summer of 2010.  He studied melting and freezing behavior of secondary alcohols. His work has been presented at the March meeting of the APS in Portland, OR, 2010.

Jargalsaikhan Dulmaa (class 2013): worked in the lab during the winter ans summer of 2010.  He studied melting and freezing behavior of primary alcohols. His work has been presented at the March meeting of the APS in Portland, OR, 2010.

Alexandrea Safiq (class 2014): worked in the lab during the spring and summer of 2011. She studies the effects of interface on the phase transition of physically confined systems..
