Youth and the Civil Rights Movement
Wednesday, October 14, 2015, Olin 115
This talk explores the role of youth in overturning the violent state-sponsored racial order known as Jim Crow. Students will learn about the youths' experience under the Jim Crow order, the origins of their activism in workshops on college campuses, the philosophies and strategies they employed, the major civil rights actions they undertook, and the transformation of the movement as many students abandoned their embrace of non-violent direct action and turned to the ideas of black power.
