print finishing & mounting

  • Plug in and turn on the mounting press. Plug in tacking iron.

  • Do not adjust the thermostat on the mounting press. It should ALWAYS be set at 250.

  • Thoroughly dry the mount board and print separately by placing them in press and closing, but not clamping the press shut.

  • After 30 seconds, remove dried board and print and allow them to cool.

  • Place print face down in a clean area, and lay a sheet of mounting tissue on it, aligning them at at least two edges, and stick the tissue down with a light stroke of the tacking iron. Adhere the tissue to the print in only one spot, preferably near the center. Use light pressure, as a heavy touch will leave an irremovable mark on the print face.

  • Trim print to exact cropping and size using the paper cutter.

  • Place the trimmed print face up, in position on the mount board and, holding it firmly in place, lift a corner and stick the tissue to the mounting board with the iron. Be sure you have not lifted the tissue with the print.

  • Now, if the press has reached operating temperature, place the board print side up in the press. Cover the face of the print with the release board and close the press firmly, clamping it shut. Leave the print in the press for 45 seconds to a minute. If it is not adhered well, simply press it again.

  • Immediately after removing the print from the press put is under one of the flat cooling weights to finish. If this last step is not followed, the corners of your print might lift, and you will have to start over from scratch.

  • Before leaving, shut off the press, and unplug both the press and the tacking iron. CLEAN UP THE WORK AREA, and throw all scraps away.

CAUTION: DO NOT PUT ‘RC’ PAPER IN THE DRY MOUNT PRESS WITHOUT CHECKING WITH THE LAB TECH. (IT MAY MELT AND RUIN THE PRESS IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY).

DO NOT PUT WET PRINTS IN THE PRESS.
PRINTS MUST BE TOTALLY DRIED FIRST!
