Description of Performing Arts Digital Music Lab
(edited from e-mail from Prof. Hillary Tann, 2/28/2000 to Doug Klein)

Our main need is for a large-scale computer/keyboard studio --
similar to a language lab. ...[I]t would be good to start planning
as soon as possible.

We have in mind at least eight computers MIDI-ed to piano-type
keyboards. Such music workstations are now fairly common in most college
(and some high school) music departments. We need the equipment for all
music theory courses, class piano instruction, and for our composition
students (intensive use for score preparation after hours).

The initial investment is quite high, but even with the two computers we now
have, we've proven the usefulness of the equipment again and again.
