Technical Literacy Survey
May 3, 2000
Tech Lit Committee: Doug Klein, Diane Keller, Andrea Foroughi, Dave Hemmendinger,
Tom McFadden
The Technical Literacy Committee was formed to assess the computer and information technology skills that our students acquire during their time at Union. As a first step in this process, we would like to have an accurate picture of the types of skills that are currently being taught or expected of our students. By technical skills and technical literacy we mean a wide variety of computer skills, ranging from the use of specialized or discipline-specific software and skills to the use of word processing software and spreadsheet programs to the ability to retrieve and critically evaluate information from the web. Please help us by filling out the short survey below and returning it to Doug Klein at kleind@union.edu by Friday, May 12. (We'd prefer that you reply electronically, but you may send a paper copy through campus mail.)
Please answer the questions for each course that you are currently teaching. Include any additional comments that you would like to make about the technical literacy needs of Union students and how they might be fulfilled. Thank you!
