COMMITTEE ON TRANSFER CREDITS
Union College Policy on Transfer Credits
(for full-time day students)
February, 2001
- Union
College will consider granting transfer credit for a course taken while the
student is enrolled in high school only if the course is taken on the campus
of the college/university offering the course and the course is available
for enrollment by the students of that college/university.
- A
matriculating freshman can transfer in a maximum of 5 course credits through
any combination of Advanced Placement examinations, the International
Baccalaureate Program*, or college courses taken at other
post-secondary institutions. Appropriate scores for granting credit for AP
examinations or IB courses are determined by the individual academic
departments at the College.
(
* For students completing
the Full Diploma in the international Baccalaureate program, see the catalog
under International Baccalaureate)
- After
matriculation at Union College, a student may transfer in a maximum of 3
course credits for courses taken through other institutions. Prior approval
must be obtained for these courses from the appropriate department chair and
the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. Permission is normally
granted only if the student is behind in course credits or if there are
compelling programmatic reasons. Normally, students are not allowed to take
courses at other institutions during the academic year.
- Union
College has a senior residency requirement. Upon attaining senior status
(the completion of 26 course credits or 28 for Engineering students), a
student must spend three terms enrolled as a full-time student at Union
College or in Union College approved programs.
