It's been a while since I sent out some web notes, so
here's some of the highlights of recent and current projects:
AWARD
- Our Virtual Tour won a Bronze medal at the CASE
Accolades 2002 award presentation, in case anyone hasn't heard yet
:) .
NEW SERVICES
- Online registration for the Steinmetz symposium http://steinmetz2002.union.edu/.
Site goes "live" on March 6. Students can submit their
registrations for Steinmetz through a web form.
- Health Professions Candidate Processing This
sophisticated, interactive web form allows pre-med students to enter
their information online, and organizes all of their information so
that the pre-health office can better advise them on their
applications.
NEW SITES
- Converging Technologies: (Technically not new, but
completely re-done) http://www.ct.union.edu/
- Upstate Partners: Strengthening the Campus-Community
Connection http://www.union.edu/Upstate/
The online home for the major conference that Union is hosting this
Spring includes online registration, a detailed agenda, and a
comprehensive collaborative site that includes contributions from more
than fifteen different colleges detailing their campus-community
efforts in their own communities.
- Union news http://www.union.edu/News
The news home page now displays the 5 most recent press releases and
Chronicle stories. These are generated automatically from the About U
database.
- Union Initiatives This simple but very effective site
provides a "one-stop shop" for finding information about all
of the major initiatives going on at Union.
- Camp College http://www.union.edu/Admissions/Events/CampCollege/
This web site details Union's three day pre-college camp for
"underserved" college populations.
NEW WEB STEWARDS
- Loreli Rodriguez: Residence & Campus Life
- Deb Ludke: Anthropology
- Kathy Basirico: Economics
REVISED SITES
- Campus Map http://www.union.edu/CampusLife/Map/
The new campus map provides a big jump in usability and depth of
information. The design of the new map makes it easier to
"see" where things are on campus, and the new building
descriptions on the side include relevant information such as
departmental phone numbers and building descriptions.
- Human Resources http://www.union.edu/PUBLIC/HRDEPT/
This was a large conversion that brings one of our most popular sites
into the official look and feel of the rest of the site.
- ABOUT U About U continues its wildly popular run. New
features include:
- "Invite-a-friend," which allows subscribers
to send an electronic invitation to friends
- An Admissions "publication," which allows
the admissions office to send out reminders, announcements, etc., as
part of About U
- An Alumni "publication," which allows the
alumni office to send out reminders, announcements, etc., as part of
About U
- A feedback form that feeds into a database, allowing
us to closely track every iota of feedback we receive, and address it
promptly.
CURRENT/NEAR FUTURE PROJECTS:
- Updating Campus Safety site to new design
- "Congratulations" site: overhaul of site
welcoming admitted students to Union
- "Smart" web site that allows prospective
students' most commonly asked questions (and even some not-so-commonly
asked) be answered by a smart "bot" that has been prepped by
a human being.
- Synchronization of About U database with Alumni DB
and prospective students DB.
- Online Parking map
- "Trees of Union" virtual tour
- Re-launch of online services for Alumni
