PURPOSE
The Union College Web Site underwent a major redesign in January/February 2003. The purpose of this site archive is to give readers a sense of what the College web site looked like before the redesign, and also at least a token sense of the types and amount of information available through the College web site.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

***What this CD-ROM contains***
This CD-ROM contains a copy of many of the static files that constituted the Union College web site as of January 1, 2003.

***Important information, features, and services that this CD-ROM does NOT contain***

This CD-ROM cannot contain any of the site features that are generated dynamically by a web server. An important example of this type of feature is campus publications such as the alumni magazine, the Chronicle, and Press Releases. All of these publications are stored in a database and are displayed when requested by a web browser.

This CD-ROM also does not contain any files or features that are not provided or hosted by the official campus web server. This includes:

* Many personal home pages (generally housed at www1.union.edu)
* Many departmental web servers (www.math.union.edu, for example): In addition to their space on the official campus web server, many departments host their own web server.
* The student-club-run web server ("Virtual Union", vu.union.edu)
* The alumni online community server (www.onlinecommunity.com/union): provided by a third party.
* The online classroom server (online.union.edu).

***How this CD-ROM was created***
This CD-ROM was created by visiting the web page with Internet Explorer 6 and saving the page to a local folder. The page was saved in .html format when possible, however some pages were saved in .mht format (web archive) to maintain the appearance of the page. Both formats opened in Internet Explorer 6 and displayed the correct layout, text and graphical content. We tried to get as complete a set of files as files as possible from at least the first layer of each of the major areas of the site.
