portfolio project

You will pick a topic, idea, locale, thing, or concept to work on for the entire 10-week term, culminating in a unified body of work [A Portfolio] that works together as a series of photographs.  You need to pick something you can shoot often, get to easily, that is do-able. You must have a working title by the first week of class.

You must choose to work in color digital or black & white.

You are required to keep a Journal consistently through the term and development of your work and ideas.  This journal must contain a log of shooting activity [dates, time spent, # of pictures], an ideas section, self-criticism about your work and progress, and a section on work being investigated to inform your project:

Sections are explained below:

Section 1 – Log of shooting

            4/1            Jay street            6 AM – 8:30 AM            2 rolls shoot

section 2 – ideas for your next shoot – specific picture ideas, specific place ideas, light ideas, composition ideas, subject matter ideas.  Write or list ideas to work on during your next shoot or subsequent shoots.  Include notes about what to improve upon in your next shoot.

Section 3 - Work being investigated to inform your project  [Outside influences – Inspiration]

You are required to look continuously at serious photography ideas and images from outside sources [i.e. library books, journals, exhibitions, web] and develop a “vocabulary” of approaches, photographers and specific images that are intended to inform your work.  Entries about these discoveries are to be made in your journals including Xeroxes and printouts of specific images.  You should make entries about all work seen in class presentations/lectures.

 

 

The FINAL PORTFOLIO must be in a container [plastic bag is sufficient], put in an order, labeled and turned in by the final due date.

FINAL DUE DATE FOR ALL PORTFOLIOS: End of the last day of photo classes.
