180. Studio Internship. A student that has largely fulfilled the requirements for a
concentration in studio visual arts may apply to the department to pursue an
internship with a studio visual arts related professional business, arts center,
gallery or artistís studio. This
is a student initiated experience where the student proposes the internship,
seeks faculty sponsorship and obtains the chairís approval.
The internship application is required to be completed by the student and
approved by the department prior to pre-registration for the term of the intern
opportunity.
Guidelines
An internship in the studio visual arts area is a student initiated experience suitable for majors and minors that have largely fulfilled the requirements for a concentration in studio art at Union. The student must identify and propose an internship, seek a studio visual arts faculty sponsor, and gain approval from the department chair. An internship application is required to be completed by the student and approved by the department prior to pre-registration for the term of the intern opportunity.
The student needs to complete the attached application and submit it with an internship description supplied by the organization/individual offering the opportunity (including the name and phone number of the on site internship supervisor) to the visual arts faculty sponsor. Upon gaining faculty sponsorship, the application and attachments need to be reviewed and approved by the department chair. The faculty sponsor will grade the internship in consultation with the on site internship supervisor.
Requirements
The student needs to be capable of meeting all obligations involved in doing an internship.
A journal (including a log of time spent at the internship) and summary essay is required.
Each studio visual arts faculty sponsor
may have additional requirements for an internship that they sponsor. The student is required to supply the faculty sponsor with
all supporting materials necessary for approval and evaluation of performance
for the internship experience.
Faculty have no obligation to sponsor
internships and will approve only those projects considered to be of special
merit for qualified students. The
number of internships sponsored by the department each year is limited.
Internships
opportunities for credit are available to juniors and seniors.
