Assessment, Advising,  and Portfolios

NLII Focus Session, October 25, 2002, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, "Teaching, Learning and Assessment with E-Portfolios"

AAHE Assessment Forum
"The AAHE Assessment Forum is the primary national network connecting and supporting higher education stakeholders involved in assessment. It promotes thoughtful, effective approaches to assessment that involve faculty, benefit students, and improve the quality of teaching and learning. It helps campuses, programs, and individuals to plan, implement, and share the results of their assessment efforts by publishing, networking, and sponsoring an annual national conference."

The 2002 Assessment Conference,  is June 20-23 in Boston.  There are lots of sessions on "Assessing the Ineffable".

Union Advising Surveys, and Advising Assessment
In Spring, 2000 we wrote a description of our vision for Integrated Advising, and surveyed all seniors on their advising experiences.

In the Spring of 2002, the Union College Assessment Committee undertook further surveys of students and faculty.  As of May, 2002 only the student survey had bee administered, with 678 responses (from a student body of about 2000).  Results are still being tabulated. The faculty survey has not yet been administered.

Assessing the Union 8-Year Leadership in Medicine Program

Students admitted into this eight-year program spend four years at Union College, where they complete undergraduate and graduate courses an interdepartmental major in the humanities or social sciences, a special program in bioethics, a health services practicum, and a term abroad or international experience. After successfully completing these requirements - all in four years - students are awarded the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees before heading off to medical school.

The portfolio forms are currently under revision, but here are samples of the forms used for 2001-2002 (as Word documents).
