Students arrive in Shanghai, China |
|
September 6-8. After more than 14 hours travelling over the Pacific Ocean, and after four not-so-entertaining in-flight films,
eleven of thirteen students arrived on Wednesday evening at Pudong International Airport. On Thursday they toured Shanghai,
catching the sights of the newly built Shanghai Museum, the ancient Yu Yuan Gardens, and the commercial shops of Nanjing
Road. By six o'clock, jet leg was beginning to set in, but they all gathered for dinner to greet the two students who arrived
during the day. On Friday, they skirted off to Nanjing to begin their ten-week adventure....
Shanghai's very modern and impressive museum was one of the first places students got to know a little about Chinese culture. Besides exhibits of the 56 national minorities of China, calligraphy, painting, traditional furniture, and sculpture, students also got to watch a pottery demonstration.
Despite heavy jetlag, there was lots to see and many questions to be answered between naps on the bus trip from Shanghai to Nanjing.
Everyone was excited about finally arriving. After putting their rooms in order students headed off to explore the campus and its surrounding neighborhood.
