Week #1
Here's a set of instructions for accessing the online homework: Mastering Physics.

Lab WILL start on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 (week #1).
The schedule for the lab as well as the individual experiments can be found on the laboratory webpage
Physics help center will start on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in ISEC120 from 7pm - 10pm.
Quiz #1 will be on Monday, September 9, 2024 and will cover forces and force diagrams from Phy110, vectors, charge and electric force.
Office hour change: For the first two weeks of the term, office hours will be MWF: 9:30am - 10:30am.
For all of the quizzes and exams you will be given a formula sheet. The formula sheet can be found here and on the exams page.
Week #2
Quiz #2 will be on Monday, September 16, 2024 and will cover electric force, electric field, motion of charges in constant electric fields, and electric potential.
There will be no lab on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 (week #2).
Week #3
Exam #1 will be on Monday, September 23, 2024 and will cover Ch. 20 (sections 20.1 - 20.5 on electric forces and fields due to point charges and constant electric fields for plates of charge), Ch. 21 (sections 21.1 - 21.8 electric potential for point charges, electric potential for plates, capacitance, energy stored in a capacitor), Ch. 22 (sections 22.1 - 22.2 electric current), and Ch. 23 (sections 23.1 - 23.2, & 23.6 - 23.7 Kirchhoff's rules, and RC circuits both charging and discharging).
Note: There are no office hours Friday 9/20/24 or Sunday 9/22/24 since I will be out of town. I will be available by email and I'll also have office hours on Thursday 9/19/24 from 8am - 12pm and 2pm - 4pm.
Don't forget, there is also the Physics study center on Thursday, in ISEC120 from 7pm - 10pm.
There will be lab on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Week #4
Quiz #3 will be on Monday, September 30, 2024 and will cover current, drift velocity, resistance, and resistor circuits.
There will be lab on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Week #5
I updated the formula sheet on the exams page. The new version can also be found here.
Quiz #4 will be on Monday, October 7, 2024 and will cover magnetic forces on charges and wires, circular motion, drift velocity and the Hall effect.
There will be lab on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Week #6
Exam #2 will be on Monday, October 14, 2024 and will cover Ch. 22 (sections 22.1 - 22.6), Ch. 23 (sections 23.1 - 23.5), Ch. 24 (sections 24.1 - 24.6) and Ch. 25 (sections 25.1 - 25.4). Topics will include resistance, current, drift velocity, resistor circuits, resistors in series and parallel, magnetism and magnetic fields, magnetic forces on charges and currents in wires, magnetic fields from long straight wires, and Faradays law.
There will be no lab on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Week #7
Quiz #5 will be on Monday, October 21, 2024 and will cover light, instnsity, radiation presure, and polarization

Week #8
Quiz #6 will be on Monday, October 28, 2024 and will cover reflection, refraction, converging and diverging lenses.
There will be lab on Tueday, October 29, 2024

Week #9
There will be no office hours on Thursday, October 31, 2024. I will have extra hours on Wednesday, October 30.
There will be lab on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Exam #3 will be on Monday, November 4, 2024 and will cover Ch. 18 (sections 18.1 - 18.5, & 18.7), Ch. 19 (sections19.1 - 19.5), Ch. 27 (sections 27.1, & 27.9 - 27.10), and Ch. 28 (sections 28.2 - 28.3). Topics covered on the exam include the ray model of light, the laws of reflection and refraction, critical angles, intensity and polarization of light, converging and diverging lenses, compound lens systems, the thin lens equation magnification, the photoelectric and Compton effects.
Week #10
There will be no quiz on Monday, November 11, 2024.
There will be no lab on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Fall 2024 Final Exam Information:
Date and time: Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 8:30am - 10:30am in Wold 128.
There will be 5 problems on the exam each worth 24 points. Each problem consists of three worked parts.
Each worked part is worth 8 points yielding 24 points for each problem.
The final exam is worth 120 points total.
Topics on the final:
1. Relativity, electric work, work-kinetic energy theorem, magnetic fields, magnetic forces and motion of charged particles in magnetic fields.
2. Light as a particle. Energy, momentum, frequency and wavelength of a photon. Nuclear decay and the radioactive decay law. Photoelectric and Compton effects.
3. Ohm's law and circuits. Resistors in series and parallel, resistor-capacitor circuits, discharging capacitors, magnetic fields from currents, electric current, electricfields, and electric potential.
4. Radioactive decay. Energy associated with decay particles, radioactive decay laws and radioactive dating.
5. Light as a wave. Reflection, refraction, critical angles in materials, lenses, thin lens equation, magnification, power of a lens.
