Huangshan

Huangshan Itinerary:

11.4 Leave Nanjing at 8 AM, arrive foot of Huangshan and stay at Jiulong Shanzhuang

11.5 Head up the mountain after breakfast and tour the peaks in the afternoon. Stay at Paiyunlou.

11.6 Descend the mountain and head back to Nanjing after lunch.

We arrived at the bottom of the Huangshan mountains and enjoyed a sunny afternoon walk. The villagers we passed by were busy sunning the various grain they'd recently harvested from their fields. They were also drying vegetables to make a specialty dish from the region.

Some students wandered off to a small village that offered as a tourist attraction a small boat ride up a small river. Joe Relyea, Bob Federici, and Lee Stevens are shown on the left. Kwok Lee tries his own hand at rowing on the right.

It was an arduous climb for some and a brisk pace for others, but everyone managed to hike up Huangshan. Luckily the sky remained sunny and, despite Mr. Wu's warnings, not very cold. It would have been nice to witness the "sea of clouds" that a rainy day offers, but we got to see a lot more of the countryside across peaks without the clouds. The sunset was, of course, breathtaking, and the stars do literally seem to be hovering within one's grasp.
