FRN-132:
A Survey of French Literature II

This course examines the evolution of French literature from the late eighteenth century to the present. Through different writers and genres from France and other French speaking places, we will explore a variety of themes including love, religion, moral values, socio-political stratifications and economic trends and the ways these themes are developed in relation to the socio-cultural contexts of their production. Our focus will be on Jean J. Rousseau’s La Nouvelle Heloise, Gustave Flaubert’s Les Trois Contes and Colette’s La Vagabonde.
