Voices of Francophonie: Literature from French-speaking Countries and Territories other than France

 

French 149B is a course that examines French speaking writers and films about West Africa, North Africa, and the French departments in the Caribbean. It seeks to examine the literatures and cultures of Senegal, Algeria, Mali, Martinique and Guadeloupe through texts and films. Each of those former French colonies or French departments deals with a unique and complex identity informed by local meanings and tongues interlinked with French culture and language as well as global trends. Class material will include representative novels and audiovisual material from each of the regions. Entirely taught in French.
